Home Guard Well Organised In North
“Everywhere throughout the North, the Home Guard is well organised,” commented the Area CommandQ'r (Lieut. H. F. Chandler), who has just completed a tour of the Far North. Wherever possible, coastal platoons had been fully manned. Training in the area was going ahead most satisfactorily, especially in districts where co-operation was possible with the National Military Reserve.
Great Enthusiasm,
With the promise of even more consideration for the Home Guard, it was likely that enthusiasm would increase still further in the future, Lieut. Chandler remarked. Eoth East and West Coasts had been carefully organised so far as Home Guard care of vital points was concerned.
The best-drilled company he had inspected was 1 a Maori company at Te Kao, commanded by Mr A. H. Watt, and with Mr Topia-»as second-in-com-mand.
"They had to be seen to be believed,” Lieut. Chandler said.
