Popular Paparoa People For Whangarei

Tlie Garrison Hall.in Paparoa was comfortablv filled when the many friends of Mr and Mrs. A. .1. Cornish gathered to bid them farewell prior to their departure for Whangarei, where Mr. Cornish will lake up a position in the Bargain Stores. For the past 16 years Mr. Cornish has been manager of the Paparoa branch of Messrs. Sterling, Forster, Ltd., and when the firm sold the whole business to Messrs. Beehive Stores. Ltd., Mr. Cornish was appointed manager. His position in Paparoa has been tilled by Mr. A. Holjinger, of Auckland. Prior to Saturday’s function Mrs. Cornish had been presented with a handsome farewell gift by the Paparoa Tennis Cluli, while the local bowling club made a farewell presentation of a leather bowling case to Mr. Cornish.

Dancing - was the rule on Saturday evening, with Mr. O. Hailwood as M.C.

Leading Citizen. During the supper interval Mr. E. R. Jenkins in presenting Mr. and Mrs. Cornish with a cheque spoke of the .esteem arid respect in which the couple were held by the whole district. They had taken a prominent part in all sporting and district activities and Paparoa could ill afford to lose two such good citizens. Roth Mr. and Mrs. Cornish, who were accorded musical honours, suitably responded.
