Purchase Of Overseas Food For Services

WASHINGTON, April 2.

The Senate changed its mind on the question of naval purchases of Argentine beef when it approved unanimously the 4,389,000,000 dollars Supplemental Defence Appropriations Bill, after amending it to provide for army and navy purchases of Argentine canned beef and other foreign products under restricted circumstances. It is noteworthy that "other foreign products" includes Australian wool. Such purchases are now permissable provided that the products cannot be purchased domestically at a reasonable price and in sufficient quantities.
