Melbourne Milk Carters On Strike
(Received 1.30 p.m.) MELBOURNE, This Day.
No milk deliveries will be made in Melbourne today owing to a strike of milk carters, who are demanding a six-day week. Their claim has been the subject of negotiations for several years, Some time ago the'men were given two week’s holiday annually on full pay. Last week the arbitrator granted an additional two weeks holiday on full pay with a wage increase of 8/. The decision to strike was reached yesterday when a meeting of drivers rejected a proposal for further negotiations and agreed to a strike resolution. , Speakers claimed that if they failed now to gain the six-day week the opportunity would be lost. The men decided to picket the dairies to prevent family deliveries,
