Beef Prices Improve At Westfield

Oxen Were yarded in small numbers at the Westfield fat stock sale today. There was a decided improvement in the demand, and prices rose considerably from last week’s low level in all classes.
The yarding in the cow section was also rather small, and prices improved on last week’s rates under steady competition. Calves were penned in fairly large numbers, but prices remained very firm under a steady demand. ,
Alfred Buckland and Sons Ltd., Dalgety and Co., Ltd., and the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company report as follows: — Extra choice ox, to 39/- per lOOlbs; choice and prime, 35/- to 38/-; ordinary and plain, 32/- to 34/-; extra prime young cow and heifer, 30/- to 34/-; prime young cow and heifer, 27/to 29/-; ordinary cow beef, 22/- to 26/-.
Extra heavy prime steers, £l4 10/to £16' 17/5; heavy prime steers, £l3 to £l4; lighter prime steers, £l2 to £l2 10/-; light prime steers, £ll to £ll 15/-; small and unfinished steers, £9 to £lO 10/-; extra heavy young cows and heifers, £9 to £lO 5/-; heavy prime cows and heifers. £7 10/- to £8 10/-; lighter, £6 10/to £7; other killable cows, £5 to £6.
