Over £IOO From Pakaraka Fair

[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] PAKARAKA, This Day.

The £IOO mark was cleared with ease at a Patriotic Fair held in the Homestead grounds at Pakaraka on Saturday afternoon, when residents of the Pakaraka, Puketona and Oromahoe districts turned out in large numbers.

The programme opened with a sports contest between the Pakaraka and Oromahoe schools, which ranged from sprints to tug-o’-war and other contests.

Although the result was a draw the Pakaraka School won the gii'ls’ section with 41 points, compared with Oromahoe’s 37 and in the boys’ events Oromahoe won with 431 points as against 391. After the sports public attention was devoted to the stalls which reflected credit on all who had helped to erect and provision them, and empty benches at the end of the day testified to their popularity and the capability of their saleswomen. Mock Court.

A mock court caused numerous prominent residents temporary embarrassment when they appeared before Mr. “Injustice'’ Dennis Herdman, ably assisted by “Crown and Half-Crown” Solicitor Tom Wakelin. As everyone brought before the court was fined the funds benefited considerably. Contests were held during the day Cor young and old, and keen interest was taken in the struggling tug-o’-wars. Home Guard Parade. A short parade was made by the local Home Guard unit marching to music supplied by the N.M.R. Band, under the capable control of Bandmaster Dadson. A most successful auction of produce unsold brought a merry day to a close.
