Well On Road To Addis Ababa
(Rec. noon) RUGBY, March 16 A Nairobi communique states that imperial troops have penetrated far on the road to Jijiga and along the Strada-Reale road from Mogadiscio to Addis Ababa, via Neghelli. Operations are continuing. There was considerable air activity in the Keren region in Eritrea yesterday and the previous night, says the Middle East R.A.F. communique. Enemy troops and gun positions were bombed and machine-gunned while motor transport on the KerenAsmara road was so harassed by air attacks that it was compelled to halt.
Train Machine-Gunned
A train of from 30 to 40 trucks was machine-gunned and set on fire. It was still burning fiercely two and a half hours afterwards with frequent explosions. From all these operations all our planes returned. An official communique issued Rom headquarters at Nairobi states that the South African Air Fo'-ce destroyed eight Italian aircraft yesterday morning.
Three enemy fighters, comprising one C.R. 42 and two D.R. 43*s, were shot down in aerial combat, and two S 79 bombers and three P.omeo R. 137’s reconnaissance aircraft were attacked on the ground and burned out.
The Cairo communique states that in Libya and Eritrea there is nothing to report. British forces operating in Abyssinia from Italian Somaliland continue their advance in all sectors.
