! Mr John Duncan is paying a busij ness visit to Auckland. After a final check-up on Monday, the secretary of the Broadwood Sports Club (Mr Martin) announced that over £6O was cleared for the Patriotic Committee at the Broadwood sports held on Saturday. Fawarenga members of the Home Guard, by holding ,a series of dances to raise funds, have purchased a set of brass band instruments. Guilds’ Garden Party. A very enjoyable social afternoon and garden party was held at the home of Mr and Mrs F. M. Sheppherd recently, when friends and members of the Anglican Ladies’ Guild were the guests of the Methodist Ladies’ Guild on occasion of their second birthday party. Mrs Sheppherd's beautiful garden received hearty admiration, and the competitions held caused considerable amusement and interest, final honours being awarded *Mrs H. Rogers and Miss Ellen Gregory. Results were: Tennis, Mrs Jones and Mr Gregory; putting, Mrs E. Carmen; bobs, Mrs Copland; pegs, Mrs Wiggins; card throwing. Miss Ellen Gregory; darts, Mrs H. Rogers. Methodist Auction. On Monday evening fruit and produce from the Methodist Church Harvest Festival were auctioned in the 1.0.0. F. hall. Mr John Middleton, who acted as auctioneer, fulfilled his duties admirably, £2B being realised as a result of the sale. The Rev. ©orriah returned thanks.
