American People Mean Business, Says Envoy

LONDON, March 15

Mr Averall Harriman, special American “defence expediter” and liaison officer, who is to handle the supply programme in London on behalf of the American Government, has arrived in Britain, says a British Official Wireless message. He told reporters: ‘‘Believe me, the American people mean business.” President Roosevelt’s emissary (Colonel W. J. Donovan), who has been touring the Middle East and Europe, arrived at Lisbon and conferred with Mr Harriman before the latter left for England. He also talked for an hour with the Prime Minister of Portugal (Dr. Salazar).
