Hospital Boards Co-operate In Free Out-Patient Scheme

The chairman of the Wellington Hospital Board (Mr F. Castle) said yesterday that the board was carrying on with the out-patient service in terms of the Director-General of Health’s letter and was supplying medical attendance for out-patients.
The out-patients were not. being asked to pay a fee for consultations, They still had to pay for medicine, as, so far, pharmaceutical benefits had net been effected.
Position on West Coast
The Grey Hospital Board last night decided unanimously to co-operate with the Health Department in regard to the free out-patient treatment under the Social Security Act, says a Greymouth message. The department advised the board of- Ministerial approval of the renewal of agreements with medical associations, of which there are a large number in the district. It was stated by the board’s secretary that the renewals were now under discussion in view of the free scheme and members stated that some associations were seeking arrangements for free treatment by specialists, apart from the free out-patient scheme, and also .the free use of ambulances, which was not covered ir the scheme.
