Mutton Cheaper, Beef In Demand At Frankton

A small entry of fat sheep was received at the Frankton stock sale yesterday. Values for wethers were slightly easier, fat ewes remaining firm. Fat lambs were unchanged. A small entry of ox beef sold at rates on a par with other centres, while an average yarding of cow and heifer beef advanced on late rates. A heavy yarding of fat sheep and an average penning of stores and weaners came forward. The demand, although firm, was not as keen as at recent sales. Quotations. The Farmers’ Auctioneering Co. reports:— Fat wethers, 23/6 to 27/; unfinished and light, 22/9 to 23/6; fat ewes, 12/6 to 14/6; light and unfinished, 9/ to 12/; fat lambs, 22/3 to 28/; light, 20/6 to 21/; heavy shorn lambs, 10/6 to 23/6; lighter, 18/ to 19/6. Lightweight steers, £lO 7/6 to £lO 17/6; unfinished, £9 7/6 to £9 17/6; prime Shorthorn cows, £9 to £ll 1/; heifers, £8 12/ to £9 15/; lighter, £7 5/ to £7 17/; small, £5 6/ to £5 15/; Jersey cows, £4 18/ to £6 13/; Jersey heifers, £5 to £5 10/; forward conditioned steers, £8 17/6; mixed coloured, £5 10/ to £6 5/; boners, £3 15/ to £5 6/; store cows, £2 1/ to £3; light vealers, 30/ to £2.
