G. W. Forbes To Retire From Parliament
[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] WELLINGTON, This Day. Mi’ G. W. Forbes, a former Prime Minister, has conveyed a desire to the National Party to retire from politics after the present session of Parliament.
Mr Forbes has represented the Hurunui electorate since 1908. He has expressed the wish to retire if a suitable man can be found to take his place.
Mr Forbes is the third Opposition member of the present Parliament to announce his intention to retire from national politics. The others are Sir Alfred Ransom (Pahiatua) and the Hon. J. G. Cobbe (Manawatu). Two Government members, the Hon. W. Lee Martin (Raglan) and Dr. D. G. McMillan (Dunedin West) have also announced their forthcoming retirement.
