Auckland Wool Up In Quantity, Value
[Special to “Northern Advocate. ”] AUCKLAND, This Day.
At the sixth appraisement fixture of the season just completed nearly 18,000 bales of Auckland wool were .valued. The prices will be available to growers tomorrow and cheques will be distributed on March 14.
With the completion of this last appraisement approximately 85,000 bales of wool have been disposed of in Auckland to date this season.
This is already 3569 bales in excess of last season’s total of 81,431 and there is still the final appraisement to be held. This is set down for April 1. The five appraisements for which cheques have been distributed have yielded growers £1,182,292, while this week’s fixture should return at least a further £300,000 bringing the season’s cheque to date to around £1,483,000, which exceeds .last season’s cheque by £IOB,OOO and is only £45,500 short of the record payment of £1,528,500 established for the province in 1936-37. When the entire clip has been dealt with there is every likelihood that this figure will be surpassed.
