Gift Of Land At Otiria

During the sitting of the Native Land Court at Otiria, Mr. Reweti P. Kingi made a gift of land to be set aside by th'e court for the consolidation officer, Mr. Cooper, so that all lands in the Motatau Block could be consolidated and developed. The gift of land was accepted by the court after Mr. Cooper had declined, as he was a servant of the King and could not accept it. He said, however, that he was highly touched by the .spirit of the gift, and left the position solely in the hands of the court.

In accepting the gift, Judge Acheson thanked the Ngatihine tribe, through Mr. Kingi. He trusted that the .spirit behind the gift would achieve the future welfare of the Maoris in Northland.
