Anglo-Italian Peace Parleys Rumoured
LONDON, February 12. The Columbia broadcasting system’s correspondent (Mr Courtney Terrett) cabled to New York from Vichy: “Anglo-Itailan peace negotiations will start on the Riviera on Wednesday.”
Well-informed sources in London discredit Mr Terrett’s story. The Athens radio says dissident members of the Fascist party secretly met at Rome on January
15 and resolved to send Count Grandi, former Ambassador to Britain, to London, to sue for peace in the name of the Italian people.
The police made many arrests and severely punished some of the participants. The announcer added that the news came from an unimpeachable source.
Signor Ansaldo, Mussolini’s publicist, was aware of the proceedings.
