NEW YORK, January 12,

The United States Line’s steamer Manhattan (24,239 tons), en route to San Francisco with 200 passengers and a crew of 500, went aground at Lake Worth Inlet, near West Palm Beach, Florida. A coastguard vessel is en route to assist her.

The Manhattan is about 900 yards off shore and nine miles north of West Palm Beach, but apparently is in no immediate danger.
