Federal Govt. Safeguarding War Effort
(Received 2 p.m.) SYDNEY, This Day.
The Federal Government has taken drastic powers under the National Security Act to check attempts to interfere with war production, to prevent disaffection in the Australian forces and to preserve the public morale. Amending regulations prohibit subversive statements. A subversive statement is defined as any statement intended or likely to interfere with the national effort by disruption of the morale of the civilian population or of members of the forces, or to prejudice or interfere with the production and carriage of goods required for the war. Statements of a disloyal or unpatriotic nature are also defined as subversive. The regulations also prohibit any statement likely to prejudice Government financial schemes.
