To Build New Fleet For Allied Service
NEW YORK, January 12. A Norwegian-American combine has taken over the old Groton shipyards at Connecticut, which have been closed since the World War, to build a 20,000,000-dollar fleet of freighters for the Allied merchant marine. It is expected that the construction of 9000-ton ships will start in a few weeks under the direction of American engineers. Maritime officials l’n Washington stated that all new vessels building in the United States, also soma old ships, will be equipped with degaussing gear against magnetic mines.
