Home Guard Committee Welcomes Commander
In welcoming the newly-appointed Whangarei district battalion commander (Colonel J. N. McCarroll) to a meeting of the Whangarei District Home Guard, the chairman (Mr J. G. Draper) expressed the great satisfaction it had given not only to the committee, but to_ all members of the Home Guard that Mr McCarroll had accepted the position. On behalf of the Farmers’ Union, Mr A. Wiblin congratulated the committee' on securing the services of such a distinguished officer. Colonel McCarroll thanked the committee for its welcome, which was carried with acclamation. E.P.S. Representatives The committee approved the appointment of Messrs J. G. Draper and W. H. Robinson as representatives on the Emergency Precautions Executive. It was decided to obtain six illustrated targets for use of country units. A number of names of non-commis-gioned officers, who had returned from training camps, was received, and it was decided that platoon commanders in districts where they resided be advised. For the convenience of platoon commanders it was decided that a telephone be installed at the residence of the secretary.
