Appointed Scientific Adviser To N.Z. Forces
[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] WELLINGTON, This Day. Doctor E. Marsden, C.8.E., M.C., has been appointed scientific adviser to the New Zealand fighting forces. He is attached to Army Headquarters in Wellington, with the rank of lieutenant-colonel. Lieutenant-Colonel Marsden is secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, .an appointment he received when the department was established in 1928. He was born and educated in England, and came to New Zealand in 1914 as Professor of Psysics at Victoria University College. Won Military Cross. From January, 1916, until May, 1919, he served with the New Zealand Forces in France, where he held the rank of major - in the engineering division of the Fourth Army. He was twice mentioned in despatches and awarded the Military Cross. After his return to New Zealand he was appointed assistant-director of education, holding this post until his appointment to the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research.
