Mr. G. A. Storrar, WellKnown Fanner, Passes
OBITUARY
A well-known farmer of the Hikurangi Swamp district, Mr G. A. Storrar, died at the Whangarei Hospital on Sunday. Mr Storrar had been in indifferent health for several years, but it was not till last week that his condition became serious, and he was taken to the hospital on Thursday. Born in London, deceased came to New Zealand .as a youth, and was employed by the State Fire Office in Auckland. Later, he went to Feilding where, in 1913, he married Miss Elsie Baker. In the same year, Mr and Mrs Storrar came to Whangarei, Mr Storrar being still employed by the State Fire Office. Farming at Hiknrangi. In 1928 he took up land in the Hikurangi district, and moved with his family to this farm. Mr Storrar continued to maintain his business interests in Whangarei, and was for many years a director of the Waikiekie Lime Company. Keenly interested in all matters pertaining to farming and to the welfare of the district generally, Mr Storrar was .an efficient secretary for the Whangarei branch of the Farmers’ Union, over a period of many years. He was also closely connected with movements for the welfare of the settlers on the Hikurangi Swamp drainage area. He was a member of many years’ standing of both the Masonic and the Oddfellows’ Lodges. Mr Storrar is survived by his wife and one son, Mr Marsden Storrar, of Hikurangi.
