Heavy Weekend Rain Brings Relief To Farmers, Gardeners
Heavy rain showers at the weekend proved a veritable Godsend to farmers.
1 Already the protracted dry spell was having its effect on production and farmers generally felt that unless the weather broke the position would become serious.
Consolidating the good done by previous light falls last week, the weekend rainfall should materially improve grass growth and tend to check the decline in butterfat production. Household gardeners, too, appreciated the break in the weather, vegetables and other plants having been affected similarly. Gusty Wind Gusty winds at times made the weekend boisterous though sunny patches between showers tempted some people out of doors. Even so, beaches and other picnic spots were not so popular as they have been previously this season. In the lower reaches of the harbour the wind at times raised a considerable jobble, but the waves subsided quickly once the wind dropped. The barometer today had a rising tendency, suggesting that the rainy period might soon pass.
