“Ramparts We Watch” At Regent
Amusements
Tonight will .afford the last opportunity of seeing the remarkably realistic film, “Ramparts We Watch," which was shown at a midnight matinee at the Regent on Christmas Eve and again last evening. These were the first screenings of the picture in the Dominion, Whangarei people having been given the privilege of witnessing the New Zealand premiere of a picture which has aroused Americans to a realisation of the duty they owe to Britain to assist her to win a war which is as much America’s as it is her own.
Readers of the pre-review criticism ! which we printed on Tuesday will be well aware of the nature of the picture, which traces in a most impressive manner the awakening of the United States to a realisation that it dare not —save at its own peril—stand out of the Great War. Incident by incident, stirring and heart-rending, the reasons which moved the people of America are shown until eventually the United States was able to claim her share of blood and glory in the defeat of the Nazi barbarians. Then came * the awakening to the greater peril of the present war. Pictures and stories were followed by the screening of the Nazis’' great propaganda film, the “Baptism of Fire,” in which Hitler aimed at undermining the morale of the nations against whom he intended to march, thus securing easy wins for Germany. These pictures were seized from the German legation in Washington, and, in spite of Nazi protests, were given nation-wide publicity. As a result, Americans are now convinced that they must, in their own self-defence, do everything in their power to stop aggressors who, if victorious, would add America to their list of victims. “Ramparts We Watch” is a picture which ought to be seen by everybody, and there should be a large audience to witness its final screening this evening, especially as it is supported by a most hilarious comedy, “Pop Always Pays.”
