Balloted Reservists’ Chance To Go Overseas
[Special to “Northern Advocate”! AUCKLAND, This Day.
Reservists who have been drawn in the ballot for overseas service are being given an opportunity to go into camp with the Fifth Reinforcement in the event of there being any vacancies.
When the ballot was announced, it was stated that the men drawn were required for the Sixth Reinforcement, and that the early drawing of the ballot was to give the reservists and their employers ample opportunity to make arrangements for training new staffs where necessary.
There has been no announcement yet whether there are sufficient volunteers for the Fifth Reinforcement, for although it is understood that most districts had a sufficient quota when the Fourth Reinforcement was mobilised, these have been drawn upon to some extent in the meantime to meet military circumstances. Although it is not yet known - whether there will be any deficiency in the Fifth Reinforcement, many men called in the ballot have, since the lists were published, requested that they be sent overseas as soon as possible. “Although none of these men have yet been medically examined, a note of their willingness to serve immediately has been made on their record cards, and it is likely that they will be given preference should the necessity of calling upon reservists for the Fifth Reinforcement arise.
