Actor Earned £IOO A Week; Hasn’t a Penny
Terence de Marney, film and stage actor, at Westminster County Court, said he hadn’t a penny, but offered to pay £26 owing to Mr. Jack Oliphant for publicity work at the rate of £2 a month.
“Before the war I was earning £IOO a week,” he added. “When I returned to this country before war broke out I came back to no employment whatever. I have no income, and all I shall receive from ‘Outward Bound,’ which finished last Saturday, is about £3 10/-.”
Mr. Oliphant said that Mr. de Marney had played the lead in “Outward Bound,” and he should think his salary must have been £7O to £IOO a w r eek.
Judge Austin Jones made an order for payment at the rate of £5 a month.
