Northland Bowlers Form Umpires’ Assn.
Convened by the North Auckland Bowling Centre, a meeting of delegates from clubs was held in Whangarei last night for the purpose of forming .an umpires’ association. The North Auckland Centre president (Mr A. C. Smeaton) presided, and addressed the delegates assembled on the need for the formation of an umpires’ association in Northland. The meeting decided to proceed with the setting up of an association. The Officers. The following officers were elected: President, Mr A. C. Smeaton; vicepresident, Mr G. Wilding; secretary and treasurer, Mr B. Taylor; executive, Messrs. Whitham (Portland), Farmer (Whangarei), Miller (Whangarei), Nesbitt (Hikurangi), and Scott (Hikurangi). The association is to supply umpires for all howling tournaments in Northland. Instruction meetings of members are to be held, the first at Whangarei on January 20, while the annual meetings will be held in July of each year.
