New Messerschmitt. —The Bremen wireless says the new Messerschmitt 110 has much greater range than the Messerschmitt 109. It is equipped with several cannon machine-guns, and carries a crew of two. The construction enables it to carry very heavy bomb loads under the fuselage.
Profiteer Landlords. —“I would have many Birmingham landlords hanged,’’ said the Lord Mayor of Birmingham (Sir Percy Bower). “Landlords are profiteering so much at the expense of the homeless that I have called a special council meeting to check their activities.”
Martinique.— The representative of General de Gaulle in Washington (M. Jacques Desieyes) said in a statement to the press that if the Free French element should gain control in Martinique. where 80 per cent, of the population sympathised with General de Gaulle, the United States would be granted the right to establish a naval base there.
Dutch Navy.—The headquarters of the Royal Netherlands Navy has published a casualty list containing the names of 22 officers and men, including the Fleet Air Arm personnel, who recently lost their lives on active service. The navy is now operating from British shores.
Transatlantic Cable. —There was a slight temporary breakdown of Atlantic cable communication last night. The Berlin radio announced triumphantly that cable communication between London and the United States had ceased.
Free French.—A Vichy message says that the Minister for Justice announced that General do Gaulle, Le Gentilhomme de Larminat and Catroux will shortly be deprived of their French nationality.
Concentration Camps.—Four men were sent to concentration camps at Toulouse after attempts to reconstitute dissolved political parties, says a message from Vichy. Three others were arrested for Communist activities.
West Wail.—Rome radio states that Germany’s new West Wall has been completed, extending from Norway to the Bay of Biscay.
