U.S. Loan To China Challenge To War With Japs.
TOKIO, December 8.
“Such a loan is tantamount to challenging war with Japan,” declared the newspaper “Hochi Shimbun,” in commenting editorially on the United States decision to grant China a loan of 100,000,000 dollars. “It is like throwing bombs against the foundation work for the establishment of a new order in east Asia.
“It- has created an unpleasant 'and unforgettable impression to the • Japanese people.” . Vice-Admiral Boshiro Hosogaka has been appointed supreme commander of the Japanese fleet ,in south China waters, succeeding Vice-Admiral Umataro Tanimoto, who has been assigned to the general staff of the navy.
Vice-Admiral Tanimoto will have -an audience with the Emperor on Tuesday regarding the activities of the Japanese fleet in south China waters.
All the directors of the Japanese iron works, the largest in Japan, have resigned as ,a result of the Australian and United States embargo on, the export of scrap iron to Japan. 1 The chairman (Mr H«chisaburo Hirao) said that, in view of the embargo, the iron industry must be reorganised. - “In order to cope: with the new situation, a policy of self-sufficiency in iron must be formulated between Japan, -Manehukuo ‘ and China,” he said,
