Two Killed When Struck By Car

[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] PALMERSTON N., This Day.

Two men were killed late on Saturday night when they were struck by a car near Bulls, on the Bulls-Marton highway. They were: — Mr Herbert Mextefl Hlundeu, single, aged 29, farm labourer, of Halcombe. Mr Alfred lan Armitage, single, aged 20, farm hand, of Rongotea. Travelling in a light truck, Mr Herbert Blunden, with his brother, Mr E. Blunderi, and Mr J. Poutama, were returning to Kakariki, after shearing at Oroua Downs. The truck had stopped, and Mr Herbert Blunden was on the road speaking to Mr Armitage, who rode up on a bicycle, when a sedan car, driven by Private P. D. Wootten, approached and struck them. The car went off the road, careering through a gorse and sod fence into a paddock. Mr Blunden was found dead near the truck and Mr Armitage died a few minutes after he had been picked up where the car went through the fence.
