Westfield Beef Prices Slightly Lower
[ Special■ to “Northern Advocate”] AUCKLAND, Wednesday. There was an average yarding of steers at the Westfield fat stock sales today, but prices were slightly lower than last week. Top price was £l7/7/6. Ox beef was quoted at 38/- per 100 lbs. Cow and heifer beef was quoted at 34/- per 100 lbs., there being a very small yarding of cows. Messrs. Alfred Buckland and Sons, Ltd., Dalgety and Co., Ltd., and the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.. Ltd., report as follows: — Extra choice ox. 38/- per 100 lbs.; choice and prime ox, 34/- to 37/-; secondary and plain. 31/- to 33/-; extra prime young cow and heifer beef, 27/- to 34/-; choice and prime, 27 - to 34/-; ordinary cow beef, 23/to 26/-. Extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £l6 to £l7/7/6; heavy prime steers. £l4 to £ls/5/-; lighter, £l2/15/- to £l3/10/-; light, £ll to £l2; small and unfinished, £B/10/- to £lO/10/; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £lO to £l3, heavy prime cows and heifers, £B/10/- to £lO/7/6; lighter, £7 to £8; other killable cows. £4/10/- to £6/5/-.
