Fuel Restriction Breaches Cost This Man £6O
[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] AUCKLAND, This Day.
Fines totalling £GO were imposed on Frank Stanley Thompson, a service station proprietor in the police court today. He pleaded guilty to two breaches of the oil fuel restrictions.
The police stated that between May and August there were shortages of 1100 gallons, compared with the coupons and licenses in Thompson’s possession. He had reported to detectives that the petrol had been stolen, but after inquiries had been made, he said it probably had been sold. Muddled in His Figures The police suggested that this was a case for the maximum fine of £IOO. Defending counsel said Thompson had been muddled in his figures. “He was now employing an accountant. In imposing the fine, Mr F. H. Levin, S.M., said there was no possible excuse. Thompson appeared to have been “making a welter of it.” He was fined £35 on one charge, and £25 on the other.
