Jap, Mission Arrives In Dutch East Indies

LONDON, September 12.

A message from Batavia says Mr. Kobayashi. special Jananese envoy to the Dutch East Indies, and his mission have arrived.

This is the first time in history that a Japanese Minister has officially visited the Dutch East Indies. 5 The Dutch Economic Director (M. H. J. van Mook) headed the welcomers and expressed the hope that the economic and oil discussions, probably opening next Wednesday, would be successful.

Seeks Foundation of Friendship

Mr Kobayashi said that Japan attached the greatest importance to the friendship of the Dutch Indies. “The aim of my mission,” he said, “is to promote closer economic ties between our two countries on a solid foundation of friendship.

“The Dutch East Indies are exceedingly rich in natural resources and extensive fertile fields, while Japan is highly industrialised, importing manufactured goods, because of which Japan places great expectations on Butch East Indies resources. “I desire strongly to contribute in the Far East sphere towards world stability and the welfare of the people in a spirit of mutual assistance and sympathetic understanding.”
