Move For Bombing Relief Fund In N.Z.
[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] WELLINGTON, This Day.
In Wellington, proposals are under consideration for sending a large sum of money to Britain as a gift from the people of New Zealand to assist those in the bombed areas.
It has been suggested that the gift might be made available by the Government from the State fund, but the proposal which is being considered is one which involves the donation of an amount of £IOO,OOO, the greater part of which would be found by the National Patriotic Fund Board and the balance by the various provincial patriotic councils. It is thought that with the death, distress and injury caused by the indiscriminate bombing by enemy planes, some immediate relief could be afforded by a fund from the Dominion if it were made available while the need is so great. Arrangements to send £250 sterling to the Lord Mayor of London’s fund for the relief of the women and children of London injured and distressed by the bombing raids were made yesterday by Mr F. W. Burley, of Hamilton.
