Access Sought For Greater Milking

Stating that, if their access road in the Purakau district could be metalled, provision would be made by them for the milking of additional herds, Mr E. C. Foote and Mr R. F. Dempster wrote to the Whangarei County Council loday, seeking that this work be put in hand. In this they wore supported in a letter from Mr H. L. B. Powell, owner of property in this locality. "These people are at a great disadvantage,” said Mr W. C. B. Powell. Little formation was required to complete the road, but many culverts would be necessary before metalling could be undertaken.

The work was in the five-year plan, and could only be carried out with grant money. He suggested that the engineer (Mr J. Norris) should prepare an estimate of the work, and that a grant be applied for next year. The proposal was approved by the council.
