(Received 11 a.m.) LONDON, July 31

The Dominions Secretary, (Viscount Caldecote), discusing in the House of Lords the expansion of Empire productive capacity, said: — “It is not only Canada to which we are looking for additions to our capacity. “A conference will soon be heia between Australia, South Africa and New Zealand and certain colonial governments in order to survey existing arrangements for the development of supply sources. “It is important not to regard this as a substitute for what we are doing in Britain.

“Nothing is more encouraging for the enemy than the knowledge that we are transferring our efforts across the Atlantic.

“Nothing is more discouraging for them than the knowledge that these secure countries across the ocean are sending increasing supplies to Britain.”
