Irregularities by recipients of relief cost the Social Security Department the sum of £ 13.103 for the year ended March 31 last, according to the report of the Controller and Auditor-General, which was tabled in the House of
Representatives yesterday. There were 1(56-1 cases, in which the recipients obtained money in excess of scale rates by failing io disclose material particulars of their circumstances, or by making false statement to the Labour Department or HvSocial Security Department. In all except 16 cases, in which court proceedings were instituted, refunds were obtained, the amount involved being £12,223.
