Police-Seized Liquor For Sale By Auction

Hotels will not be the only legal places at which bottled beer will be obtainable legally tomorrow.

Thirsty visitors will be able to quench their need without darkening the doorways of the hostelries. for beer is to be offered by auction. The liquor is that confiscated by the police in operations throughout the Northland district, most of it being line result of raids on sly-grog

shops and from cars searched at dance halls. Seldom are auctions of liquor on behalf of the Police Department necessary in Northland, this one being the first within the memory of the policeman longest stationed at Whangarei, a period of 13 years. Public auction is the customary method of dealing with liquor confiscated by the police, although sometimes quantities are donated to hospitals. while that of doubtful quality is destroyed.
