Prisoner Pays Penally

[Per Press Association. Copyright.] -'"CHRISTCHURCH, This Day.

‘‘You have already been given six months to punish you for the same offence, so we will make it twelve this time," said Mr E. C. Levvey, S.M., to Geoffrey Francis Evans Turner, who was charged with an attempted escape from prison.

The prison superintendent (Mr Spittal) said that Turner several times tried to escape. An instrument had been discovered in his cell, and one bar was found to be almost severed. He had escaped from Invercargill on two occasions, and had been given five years in Borstal with an additional year for the next escape. Yesterday’s sentence is to be concurrent with that he is already serving.
