Italians On Q’land Canefields Calm

CANBERRA, June 18. An official examination concerning the firearms and explosives taken from aliens in North Queensland, reported yesterday, reveals no attempt to accumulate war weapons. On the contrary, most of the firearms were of the spoiling type, while the explosives were usually used for clearing, quarrying or mining. The Government is pleased with the calmness with which the majority of Italians are behaving in the Queensland canefieids. A report from Brisbane states that Italian residents near Childers, Queensland, have given £3BO to the Commonwealth Government for war purposes.
