Patriotic Fend Bring-And-Buy At One Tree Point
Members of the One Tree Point branch of the Women’s Division held a “bring and buy” stall in conjunction with their usual monthly meeting with gratifying results. Mr McKenzie, of Waipu, generously placed his Ruakaka residence at the disposal of the ladies. Proceedings were opened by the reciting of the W.D.F.U. creed. The secretary (Mrs A. Watson) made an appeal to all present for materials and cast-off clothing suitable for making up or renovating for the use of refugee children. The ladies promised whole-hearted co-operation in this effort. It was decided that next month’s branch competition should be something new out of something old, suitable for refugee children, which would be handed in to the St. John and Red Cross for distribution. Emergency Committee. An emergency committee was formed from members of the branch to further efforts on behalf of the St. John and Red Cross organisation. An appeal for new members to link up with.the W.D.F.U. resulted in three enrolments being received. Mrs Lamb, who has recently returned from a trip home to England, gave an interesting address under thei title of “A Trip Through Europe.” The bring and buy stall to augment the St. John and Red Cross Fund, resulted in a sum of £5 5/- being contributed. The display included fruit, vegetables, preserves, bottled fruits, pickles, novels, and weekly journals of various editions were sold either singly or in bundles and met a ready response.
