Cargen To Be Hospital: Owners' Generosity
[Per Press Association. Copyright.} AUCKLAND, This Day. One of Auckland’s leading hotels, Hotel Cargen, was yesterday placed at the disposal of the Auckland Hospital Board for free use as a hospital for the duration of the war. The offer was made by Sir Ernest Davis on behalf of himself and his brother, the Hon. Eliot "Davis, M.L.C. The offer was accepted for the board by the chairman (Mr Allan Moody). “I am sure the people of Auckland will join v/ith me in tendering sincere thanks to Sir Ernest and Mr Eliot Davis for their gift, which undoubtedly will go a long way in meeting the most pressing problem of hospital accommodation at the present time,” Mr Moody said. “It is ,a wonderfully generous offer.”
Accommodation can be provided at the hotel for about 160 people, and if the dining room were converted into a ward, another 40 patients could be taken.
