Wanganui Pilot Decorated, Promoted
[Special to “Northern Advocate’’] WANGANUI, This Day. Flying-Officer Allen Deere, of Wanganui, a fighter pilot, has been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, and has been promoted to flight-lieutenant. Advice to this effect was received by his parents in a cable from Home. The exploit for which he was decorated is not mentioned, but it is presumed to have taken place either in the evacuation from Dunkirk or the fighting on the Somme front. Flight-Lieutenant Deere is a son of Mr. T. J. Deere, of Wanganui.
