Sydney's Fervent “Win The War” Rally

(Received 9.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. Tremendous enthusiasm and patriotic fervour were demonstrated in the City Town Hall “Win the War Rally” last night. There were at least 3,000 people inside the hall and the same number were unable to gain admission. The occasion was taken to launch an appeal for new loans. The response was most gratifying and huge sums were promised. The Prime Minister (Mr. R. G. Menzies) was the chief speaaker. He declared that the Government was setting no limit on the number of recruits it would seek, while the limit of armaments and war materials that Australia would produce would be governed only by the things needed in connection with their manufacture which had to be brought from outside. Australia was also going to see that no profits were made from this war. All For National Government. Mr. Menzies, replying to the insistent appeal for a national Government explained that he was all for it, but the Labour Leader (Mr. J. Curtin) had assured him that he was “unable to come in,” and no amount of political negotiation would enable him to change his attitude. ' Mr Curtin’s view was that he could serve a better purpose by remainin , as Leader of the Opposition.
