Miss Joyce Stewart has been appointed maid of honour for Kaitaia to the Northern Queen, Sister Collins. Mr Logan Dye, formerly of the Post and Telegraph staff at Kaitaia, and now of Te Aroha, is on a visit to Kaitaia. The deputy-chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board (Mr R. T. Reid) was elected chairman in succession to Mr W. B. Darlow at the annual meeting of the board yesterday. Mr H. Luke was elected deputy-chairman. Mr C. E. Purchase, barrister and solicitor, of Christchurch, has been appointed to the British Colonial legal service in Africa. Mr Purchase will leave Christchurch soon to take up the position of assistant Administra-tor-General and deputy Official Receiver in the Protectorate of Uganda. President Roosevelt has nominated Mr J. Pierrepont Moflatt, at pi’esent Chief of the European division of the State Department, to succeed Mr J. H. Cromwell as Minister to Canada. Mr Moflatt accompanied Mr Sumner Welles on his recent tour of Europe. Mr Cromwell recently resigned to contest the New Jersey seat in the Senate.
