Suggests N.Z. Find Refuge For 25,000 English Children

[■Special to “Northern Advocate.”] NAPIER, This Day. A proposal that New Zealand should provide refuge and, if necessary, homqs by permanent adoption for 25,000 English children, is made by the Mayor of Napier (Mr T. W. Hercock). Mr Hercock has telegraphed to the Mayors of the 50 principal cities and towns asking their support for a petition to be presented to Parliament when it opens tomorrow, seeking authority to promote the scheme. Mr Hercock explained today that the offer had been prompted by recognition of the services so freely given by all British people to Napier following the 1931 earthquake. He added that he had already received a number of offers from private individuals to assist by taking English children.
