Eleven Civilians Injured In Yorkshire Raid
LONDON, May 26. German bombers raided three parts of Eastern England during darkness yesterday. They dropped a small number of high explosive bombs in the North Riding of Yorkshire, in East Anglia and also in Essex. Eleven civilians were injured in the raid on Yorkshire. The damage was surprisingly small. It included many broken windows. The attack was brief. Great aerial activity broke out. The inhabitants were awakened, and watched spellbound while a group of searchlights gripped the raider. Then came a rattle of gunfire, and the aeroplane fled quickly over the sea. Two bombers appeared over Essex, about a mile from the centre of a town. Only minor damage resulted. British machines chased the raiders away. Bombs which fell in rural districts of East Anglia damaged a couple of cottages. East Kent was raided today for the third time, in four days. Anti-aircraft guns drove the raiders toward the sea. . . Air-raid wardens cleared the streets.
