Mangapai Too Good For ’Karamea

MEN'S A GRADE

Mangapai was too strong for ’Karamea when the tWo teams met at Maungakaramea on Saturday. Although they battled gamely to the end, ’Karamea was completely overwhelmed as the game proceeded. During the opening stages, play Was fast and interesting. Both defences were severely tested and held out until after 17 minutes, J. Carter opened Mangapai’s score, finishing off a fine forward movement. Three minutes later, W. Ormandy put his side one more point ahead. E. Bint tried hard to penetrate the opposition defence but lacked forward support. Mangapai’s half line gave their forwards good support. R. Price was outstanding and repeatedly set his right wing moving and “Mac” Carter got in some useful centres. ’Karamea backs defended well ; but the pressure was most severe due chiefly to good positional play of the visiting forwards who also put on plenty of pace. Their stick work was also good. Third Goal For Mangapai.

W. Ormandy added a third goal for Mangapai after 30 minutes’ play. The second spell saw Mangapai even more- aggressive and six more goals were scored. R. Price netted from a penalty corner. J. Palmer improved his total. C. Holland also scored and W. Ormandy brought his total up to five. Crmandy’s scoring looked easy owing to his good positional play and patience. ’Karamea was not without scoring chances. C. Bint, after beating the defence and with an open goal in front, lifted the ball over the cross bar.

More than one penalty corner was wasted through faulty circle play. Mangapai was in good form and superior in all departments. The game ended 9—o in Mangapai’s favour. It was controlled by Mr A. J. Magee.
