County Council Help In Raising War Funds
Requesting co-operation of riding members of the Whangarei County Council on behalf of the Citizens’ Committee conducting the joint appeal being made by the Red Cross Society and St. John Ambulance Association, Messrs W. J. Court and L. J. Brake waited on the "council yesterday. Mr Court stated that a postal appeal had produced poor results and the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union and the Women’s Institutes had been approached and asked to cooperate with riding members. The chairman (Mr J. A. S. Mac Kay) said it was a pity patriotic work was being, divided into so many organisations, which had the effect of confusing the people. He was sure, however, that riding members would do whatever they could to further the object. Cr. R. Feaver asked if verification had been received regarding the extension of time to June 22, Mr Court replying that he understood that that action had been taken. To Cr. J. Morrison, Mr Court said he understood funds raised would provide comforts for wounded and sick soldiers and, in the event of serious hostilities, for civilians in distress.
