Four New Umpires For Whangarei Hockey
Four new members were elected to the Whangarei Hockey Umpires’ Association this week. They were Captain Conyers-Brown, Mr G. Smith Brown, and Misses Lois Blake and H. Ruddle. Captain Conyers-Brown, owing to the call of war duties, may not be able to take a particularly active part in the umpiring of games, but he expressed wllingness to control games whenever he has time available. The two ladies nominated are both members of the School A team. After lectures they will assist by umpiring Ladies’ B grade matches. Indian Certificate The meeting decided that the rules concerning players’ sticks and boots should be strictly enforced in future. Captain Conyers-Brown, who holds an A grade Indian umpire’s certificate, lectured the meeting on rules of hockey and finer points of umpiring. His presence in the association will do much for local hockey. Captain Conyers-Brown suggested that, if sufficient young players were willing to attend, he would give special classes to enable them to improve their knowledge of the game.
