Kaikohe’s Community Lighting Scheme
[Special to “Northern Advocate ”] KAIKOHE, This Day. Further steps towards the installation of community lighting in Kaikohe were taken at the monthly meeting of the Kaikohe Chamber of Commerce. The secretary (Mr V. F. Cracknell) stated that he had had a visit from the senior police officer at Whangarei regarding the lighting of the section of footpath in front of the Police Station.
It was agreed that three lamp standards would be sufficient, and there is every possibility that the department will co-operate.
The difficulty of the lighting scheme, Mr Cracknell pointed out, was that at the top of Broadway the police, courthouse and post office sections were adjoining, and as there were no verandahs in this portion of the street, lighting would have to be by lamp standards.
He stated that the Justice Department had been written to, and that the matter was receiving consideration by the postal authorities.
